How I Work

My Approach

Every session starts with a short conversation. I want to know how you're feeling, what's on your mind, and what you're hoping for. From there, you'll lie fully clothed on a massage table while I work with light hand placements on or just above the body, following the energy and my intuition to wherever it's most needed.

I use a technique called byosen scanning, a traditional Japanese method of sensing areas of energetic congestion in the body. Rather than following a rigid script, I let the session unfold naturally from there. Sessions are typically 60-90 minutes.

My practice is rooted in the traditional Japanese lineage of Usui Reiki. That means I approach Reiki as a spiritual practice, not just a relaxation technique. Foundational practices like Gassho (a centering meditation) and the Five Reiki Precepts are part of my own daily practice, and I believe that comes through in every session. I also incorporate a modern, Western framework that includes working with the body's chakra system. Both approaches honor the same thing: the wholeness of the person in front of me.

You might feel warmth, tingling, a sense of heaviness or floating, or simply fall asleep. You might feel very little during the session and notice something shift in the days that follow. Every experience is valid. Reiki goes where it's needed, not necessarily where we think it should.

Distance Reiki Sessions

One of the things I love about Reiki is that it isn't bound by location. This is rooted in something foundational to the traditional teachings: Reiki transcends time and space. Distance sessions work on the same principles as in-person sessions. I connect with your energy field and facilitate the session exactly as I would if you were lying on the table in front of me.

Before your session, we'll connect briefly by phone or video so I can hear what's going on and we can set our intention together. Then you find a comfortable place to lie down at home, your bed, your couch, wherever feels good, put on some soft music if you like, and simply rest while I work. A lot of clients are surprised by how powerful a distance session can be. Being in your own space often makes it easier to drop in deeply.

Distance sessions are a great option if you're not local, prefer the comfort of home, or are going through something that makes travel difficult. The healing finds its way to you.

The Process

What to Expect

01
Before Your Session

Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed. You may want a blanket nearby. Set an intention if you have one — but you don't need to arrive with anything figured out.

02
During the Session

Simply rest and receive. Many people feel warmth, tingling, emotional release, or a deep sense of calm. Some fall asleep. Some feel very little at first — all of this is normal and welcome.

03
After Your Session

Drink water, rest if possible, and give yourself space to integrate. Jaye shares post-session notes and observations. The effects of Reiki can continue unfolding over the following days.

The Days That Follow

What to Expect After a Session

Reiki has a way of continuing to work long after you leave a session. Knowing what to expect can make that process feel a lot less mysterious, and a lot more like the gift it actually is.

The Good Stuff

A lot of people leave a session feeling deeply relaxed, lighter, clearer, or quietly euphoric. Sleep that night tends to be rich and restorative. A sense of calm that lingers for days. That low-grade heaviness you've been carrying? Sometimes it's just... gone.

The "Wait, Is This Normal?" Stuff

Sometimes what follows a session doesn't look like bliss, and that's completely okay. It's actually a good sign. Your body is doing something important.

Think of Reiki as an energetic spring cleaning. When you start clearing out what's been sitting stagnant, things can feel a bit unsettled before they feel better. This is sometimes called a healing response (or healing crisis), and it's your body actively working through layers of what it's been holding, physically, emotionally, mentally.

You might notice:

  • Fatigue or a deep need to sleep
  • Emotional releases, crying that comes out of nowhere, or feelings rising to the surface you weren't expecting
  • Mild physical symptoms like headaches, achiness, digestive shifts, or feeling flushed or cold
  • Restlessness or vivid dreams
  • A temporary flare-up of something old, a sensation or emotion you thought you'd moved past

This isn't Reiki going wrong. It's Reiki working. Your body is wise, and it will surface what it's ready to heal on its own timeline. Honor that. These responses typically ease within 24 to 72 hours. If anything feels significant or persistent, please reach out. I'm here to support you through whatever's coming up.

How to Take Care of Yourself After a Session

The few days after a session are a meaningful window. Here's how to support what's unfolding:

Drink a lot of water
This is the most important one. Reiki facilitates a cleansing process, and water helps your body move things through. Aim for more than you normally would over the next day or two.
Rest when you can
If your body wants sleep, let it have sleep. This is integration time, and rest is one of the most healing things you can offer yourself.
Eat gently and nourishing
Light, whole foods support the cleansing process. Skip the alcohol and heavy stimulants today. Your system is working, and those things add noise to the process.
Give yourself some quiet
If you can, create a little buffer between your session and a packed schedule. Your energy is more open and receptive than usual, and jumping back into a crowded or stressful environment can be a lot.
Feel what you feel
If emotions come up, let them. Journal, cry, talk to someone you trust. That's the release doing its work.
Notice and write things down
The shifts that happen in the days after a Reiki session are often more subtle and meaningful than what happened during it. Dreams, moments of clarity, old patterns suddenly feeling lighter. Jot them down. It can be profound to look back and see the thread.
Be gentle with yourself
Healing isn't always linear. It isn't always comfortable. But it's always moving you forward.
Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Does distance Reiki actually work? +
Yes. Distance Reiki operates on the principle that energy is not bound by physical space. Research shows outcomes for distance and in-person Reiki are comparable. Many practitioners and clients find distance sessions just as — or more — effective, because the client is in their own safe environment. See the Research page for peer-reviewed sources.
Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work? +
No. Reiki is not faith-based. You don't need to hold any particular belief system. An open mind is helpful, but skepticism is welcome. Many people come to Reiki uncertain and leave with a different relationship to what's possible.
What if I have a religious background that conflicts with energy work? +
This is a question worth sitting with. Reiki is a healing modality, not a spiritual doctrine — it doesn't require you to hold any specific beliefs or abandon your own. That said, Jaye fully respects your discernment and will never pressure you to participate in anything that doesn't feel right for you.
How many sessions will I need? +
There's no fixed answer — healing is not linear. Some people feel significant shifts after one session. Others benefit from regular sessions as part of ongoing self-care. Jaye will never pressure you into a package or a timeline. Start with one session and see how you feel.
Is Reiki safe? +
Yes. Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, and has no known side effects. It is used in hospital settings including the NIH Clinical Center and is recognized as a complementary care approach by many healthcare institutions. It is not a substitute for medical care, but it can work alongside it.
